Instructional Materials
A variety of instructional materials which support the instructional program are available to teachers, including textbooks, supplementary books and publications, software, and audiovisual materials. Selection and evaluation of materials are part of the curriculum development process.

Criteria for Selection
Instructional materials support and are consistent with the educational goals of the school; generate a desire to question and explore topics; are current and meet standards of quality in content and presentation; are written or compiled by competent authors, editors, and producers; are appropriate for the subject area, age, ability level, and development of the students. In addition, chosen materials foster respect for minority groups, ethnic groups; men and women; and realistically represent a pluralistic society and the contributions of different groups to that society.
Procedures for Selection of Materials
Selection of materials is an ongoing process which also includes the removal of obsolete and/or erroneous materials. Every year, teams of teachers evaluate the existing inventory of materials and examine new materials appropriate to the curriculum and the needs of the students. Recommendations for purchase are solicited from the faculty. The Section Principals, the Curriculum Coordinator, and General Director are responsible for the final decision, taking into account budgetary considerations. Principals are responsible for the budgetary realities of their section. Decisions for text purchase should be made in February.
Textbooks
Textbook evaluation and selection is part of the curriculum development process. Before adopting any one textbook or series, the materials are evaluated for content, presentation, age appropriateness, freedom from gender or ethnic bias. Textbooks are relevant to the objectives and contents of the grade or course and consistent with the standards and benchmarks of the curriculum. Textbooks support the curriculum; they do not determine the curriculum.
Challenged Materials
Parents who question or object to instructional materials used in the educational program should direct their complaints to the section Principal who will resolve the issue.
If the parent is not satisfied with the Principal’s resolution, the issue is referred to the General Director. The General Director may choose to establish a review committee composed of the Librarian, Principal, teacher, two parents Response should be timely. To make a challenge, parents should fill out a form. Pending a final decision, the use of the material is not restricted unless the Director thinks it necessary. The final decision may be 1) to continue using the material, 2) to remove all or part of the material, 3) or to limit the educational use of the challenged material.

Materiales de Enseñanza
El Colegio cuenta con una variedad de materiales de enseñanza que apoyan el programa educativo y están disponibles para los maestros, incluyendo libros de texto, libros y publicaciones suplementarias, software y materiales audiovisuales. La selección y evaluación de los materiales son parte del proceso del desarrollo del currículum.
Criterios para la Selección
Los materiales de enseñanza apoyan y son consistentes con las metas educativas del Colegio; generan un deseo a cuestionar y explorar sobre diferentes temas; son actualizados y cumplen con los estándares de calidad en contenido y presentación; están escritos y compilados por autores, editores y compañías editoriales competentes; son apropiados para el área de estudio, edad, nivel de habilidad y desarrollo de los alumnos. Asimismo, los materiales elegidos fomentan el respeto por los grupos minoritarios, grupos étnicos, género, y representan de una forma realista una sociedad pluralista y la contribución de los diferentes grupos de la sociedad.
Procedimientos para la Selección de Materiales
La selección de materiales es un proceso continuo el cual incluye la eliminación de materiales obsoletos y/o erróneos. Cada año, un equipo de maestros evalúa el inventario existente de materiales y revisan los nuevos materiales apropiados para el currículum y las necesidades de los alumnos. Las recomendaciones para la compra de materiales son solicitadas a los maestros. Los Principals de Sección, el Director de Currículum y el Director General son los responsables de la decisión final, tomando en cuenta las posibles limitaciones presupuestarias. Los Principals de Sección son responsables por las ejecuciones presupuestarias de su sección. Las decisiones sobre la compra de textos deben tomarse en febrero.
Libros de Texto
La evaluación y selección de libros de texto es parte del proceso de desarrollo del currículum. Antes de adoptar cualquier libro de texto, los materiales son evaluados por su contenido, presentación, edad de los alumnos y libertad al prejuicio de género o etnia. Los libros de texto son congruentes con los objetivos y contenidos del grado o curso, y consistentes con los estándares y benchmarks del currículum. Los libros de texto apoyan el currículum pero no lo limitan.
Objeción de Materiales
Los padres que cuestionen o tengan objeciones sobre los materiales educativos utilizados en el programa educativo deben dirigir sus inconformidades al Principal de la sección, quien resolverá el asunto.
Si el padre de familia no está satisfecho con la resolución del Principal de Sección, el asunto será referido al Director General. El Director General puede elegir la formación de un comité de revisión, compuesto por la Bibliotecaria, Principals de Sección, maestros, dos padres de familia. La respuesta debe ser oportuna. Para hacer una objeción los padres deben completar un formulario. Pendiente de la decisión final, el uso del material no será restringido hasta que el Director lo considere necesario. La decisión final puede ser: 1) continuar utilizando el material, 2) eliminar todo o parte del material, 3) limitar el uso educativo del material.
