Speak to be Heard: 2009 MLK Assembly

On January 19th, 2009, CAG will remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We remember Dr. King to not only share his story of struggle, courage and bravery, but to inspire our students to stand up for what they believe in.  The theme of this year's assembly is "Speak to be Heard", in which we will take time to share the enormous triumph of Martin Luther King Jr.   As well as present him as an example of the power that each of us possess.  We hope to inspire the students to "be the change they wish to see in the world".

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR COMMUNITY!

We hope that all of you had a peaceful and rejuvenating break. Looking back to a month ago, CAG closed 2008 once again with a spectacular Noche de Luces thanks to all the hard work and dedication of our APM mothers, from selling the bracelets, to coordinating the cultural events in the auditorium and all the activities in and around the fields below. CAG can't thank you enough for all you do to build and foster community and family involvement on our campus.

And on behalf of all our CAG staff members, we would like to extend a warm thanks for the faculty holiday party. From the beautiful arrangements to the delicious food, we all felt very appreciated and honored.

Please take a few minutes and to enjoy our photo galleries of these two events:

Hamlet

TNT Britain is returning to Guatemala and CAG for their third performance since their sold out debut with us last fall. Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, Hamlet, is scheduled for Thursday, September 25th and Friday, September 26th at 7:00 pm both nights in the MacVean Auditorium on the CAG campus at Q85 a ticket.

Lawrence Olivier said in the introduction to his movie about this play in 1948: “Hamlet is a tragedy of a man who cannot define clearly what he thinks”. This new production, directed by Paul Stebbing, tries to reveal that the confusion in the play, Hamlet, centers around the lack of certainty manifested in the Prince. Shakespeare is a dramatic poet, not a realist or romantic who creates a character so complex, intelligent, and noble but yet paralyzed by moral dilemmas.

An Evening with "Pascualito" and the Escuela Municipal de Danza Clásica

Our Independence Week Celebrations are in full swing! Each day this week, a myriad of sounds and colors wrap our school in the beauty, culture and story of Bella Guatemala! Various members of our community enjoyed a special treat yesterday evening as the Escuela Municipal de Danza Clásica presented the ballet, "Pascualito".

The young dancers held our attention and imagination through their creative interpretation of this whimsical, fanstastical story. Thanks to all of you who supported this cultural event and the food sales that followed.

We will continue our celebrations with Civic Assemblies, workshops and special "tienditas" savoring all the flavors of Guatemala as we enjoy being part of all the rich traditions this country has to offer.

Welcome Back

The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in which direction we are moving.
                                                        --Oliver Wendell Holmes

All of us here at CAG would like to welcome you back to another school year.  Last week, we had a great start thanks to the whole community.  New faces and familiar friends warmed our hearts and are filling all of us right now with anticipation and excitement that accompanies new beginnings.  CAG is a dynamic community that is working towards creating a better future by building relationships and creating lasting impressions that will hopefully have a positive impact on this year and years to come.

We all look forward to spending more time with you during our Open Houses in September and at all our school activities.  CAG invites all of you to come and be a part of it and proud of it!

Welcome Back To CAG class of '78!

Saturday, August 2, CAG welcomed back a group of the class of '78 with a school tour.  Our ex-alumni, who were in the midst of their festivities that day, enjoyed sharing their CAG stories, favorite classes, seeing the new facilities and hanging out at the montanita again. Your flag will be hung in our cafeteria as a symbol of your class.  Thank you class of '78 for a great Saturday.  As a school, we always welcome any ex-alumni groups back to CAG.  You are our living memory and that history makes us as always, PART OF IT AND PROUD OF IT!  For further information about planning such an event for your class reunion, contact Kimberly de Pivaral at 2369-0791 Ext 244.
