What an incredible ES Family Triathlon!
Not only was the energy level high, but the amount of former CAG alum competing with their kids in the 2nd and 3rd grade Family Triathlon, one of the newer school traditions. However, relatively new family triathlons are at our school, triathlon competitions in general at CAG are not. Some of the first triathlons began in 1983. One of the original CAG triathletes, Fernando Sandoval Samayoa (Class of '84) competed with other 3rd grade parents to make this event extraordinary! Special thanks to all the parents who showed CAG Spirit during this event.

Visits from Ex-Alumnos (Feb. 2, 2010)
CAG would like to thank all the former CAG students who have made us a part of their reunion planning over the past couple of years. For a Public Relations Coordinator, there is nothing more enjoyable than to be a part of the campus visits. At first glance, our campus is just a collection of cement structures tucked into 53 acres of verdant gardens. However, during these past years, I have seen the school gain new life as our “ex-alumni” share their adventures, mishaps, memories of the montañita, ACJ, tiendas, and special teachers who left lasting impressions. The history of the school takes on a new life through their eyes and through their stories that break the walls of time and the past.
We look forward to more visits from our Ex-Alumnos, and welcome all of our former students back to their school. You always have a home at CAG!
High School NHS Recycling Project (Feb. 1, 2010)
NHS students have been running two recycling projects this school year for paper and PET.
The Paper Recycling Project: All HS rooms have a yellow basket to collect paper that can be recycled. NHS Grade 12 students collect this paper once a week and SEPACA collects it. SEPACA pays Q.35/100lbs. The money goes for the project "Reinventando La Limonada" (Sife-UVG). NHS collects an approximate of 75 lbs. each week.
PET Recycling Project: CABCORP gave the school 16 yellow bins to collect PET (transparent hard plastic). These bins are placed along the corridors in the HS section. NHS Grade 11 students make the collection once a week, CABCORP collects every other week. CABCORP provided us with aprons, plastic bags and latex gloves. We collect and approximate of 100 lbs. every month.
The most important thing about these projects is that these are pounds of trash that do no go to overflow our dumping sites.
Fifth Graders and Excel Students Work with
Tecnologia para Educar (Feb. 1, 2010)
This year’s fifth graders along with Excel students have worked actively with “Tecnologia para Educar” (www.tecnologiaparaeducar.org) to collect computers, monitors, keyboards, and mouses to be refurbished and distributed to schools in need throughout Guatemala. This initiative is in conjunction with the Sergio Paiz Foundation and other sponsors such as Microsoft, SIT, The Guatemalan Ministry of Education, The Pacific Institute, and various others.
Excel students have been in communication virtually with a school in the States that is also collecting computers for this cause to be sent to Guatemala in late spring.
During Baratillo, we collected 13 printers, 5 monitors, 3 speaker sets, 8 keyboards, 6 mouses, 5 hard drives, and 2 video cameras. The school also added 11 keyboards, 2 Mac computers, 2 CPUs, 2 mouses, 1 wireless AP, 2 UPS, 1 set of speakers, 3 printers, and 2 monitors to the overall donation.
If you would like to join in the cause and donate a computer or accessories that are no longer of use, email or call Kim Pivaral at kpivaral@cag.edu.gt or 2369-0791 Ext. 244.
